New Burstynsky Exhibition
March 24, 2008
If you’re in Toronto from April 3 to the 26th, you should definitely catch photographer Edward Burtynsky’s new exhibition at the Nicholas Metivier Gallery. This one is a bit of an artistic dialogue between he and painter Brent McIntosh. It features eight of Burtynsky’s early, pre-Industrial photographs – the work the renowned photographer was doing in the period of his life he discusses in Kickstart. McIntosh has used these photographs – beefed up thanks to digital technology – as source material/inspiration for paintings he says are “abstractions in the guise of representational” work. I’m sure we’ll hear for more about this show in the coming weeks, but better keep a slot on your calendar open.
